Am I the only one giddy with anticipation to see Shola Lynch‘s documentary Free Angela and All Political Prisoners? The film, set to release theatrically in selected cities tomorrow April 5, 2013, is a blend of original interview footage and and archival clips that zone in on on a dangerous yet revitalizing moment in Black history that centers around the arrest of Angela Davis.

For me, it couldn’t have came at a better moment. I can’t help but notice the parallels between what was going on in the 1970s and what is happening now. The mass murder and stigmatization of people of color in the U.S, the damaging effects of neo-colonialism in Africa and the Americas, and the growing chasm between the upper and lower class. Perhaps, making that connection and realizing that the progress we claim to have made is actually a devastating illusion, will be the collective jolt that we all need in order to effectively organize in away that will create the changes needed to reduce deleterious inequalities.

So it is time to get inspired and listen as Angela speaks the truth! A friend shared this clip on her timeline and I am sure it will give you life. Check it out!!!
